Default Microsoft Redesigns Windows 10 Icons

Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system has been a mix of old and new
designs since its launch, however, Microsoft decided to modernize its
UI look by providing a fresh set of icons. If you are a user of
Microsoft Office suite, then you already know how the new icons look
for Office applications like Excel and Word. The material design
present on those apps is now transferring to the rest of Windows 10
stock applications like Calendar and Calculator. In the effort to
modernize the look of Windows 10 and end the Windows 7 inspired UI,
Microsoft will be pushing the updated icon set over few following
months. The updates icons are already available for Windows 10
Insiders, and specifically for Preview Build 19569. Regular users can
expect to get the update in the coming months.

Do they crash like the wallpaper?

Admit it, they're ugly.

I like the Thunar icon. If you look at it in 128px size, it's really
pretty cool. More there than you can pick up when you see it in 32px.

You guys aren't enjoying this the right way.

They're waving a flag at you right now.
What does the flag say ?

"We're going to turn your desktop into a cellphone! Enjoy!"

That's what is printed on the flag.

I've been seeing this implicit signal for a while now.

But like a good horror movie, there could be plot twists.
That's the only reason for keeping Windows 10, as a non-daily-driver OS.
To see how it ends.

For an operative model, watch how Apple treats its users,
and what happens to their desktop, as an indicator of
what Microsoft will do (copycat style).

These icons are horrible enough to be Emojis.

And dammit, as I understand it, there is *still* no dumpster-fire-emoji,
which is a missed opportunity. Windows Update needs that emoji
to start it. Here are some prototypes, ready to ship.

They may try to turn my laptop into a smart cellphone, but it still will
not be a smart cell phone, as I do not have one.

I am sure there are others, who have forgone the Smartphone craze.

Me, for sure will never have one, I see too many stupid people walking
around trying to talk with their thumbs instead of their mouths and
running into various parts of the infrastructure.

NO Thanks.

I'm sure the high school intern worked all week on that.

Do they teach icon design in a CompSci degree ?

"Now, kiddies, a swirl means you're making a Firefox ripoff."

"And a hamburger icon means you're hungry and should stop for lunch."

"When you come back from lunch, you can make a pie icon for dessert."

I'm not trying to 'sell' you one, but believe me, one can own and use
a smartphone *and* be quite sane at the same time! :-)

I have a smartphone and I also 'hate' these weirdos who are glued to
their phones.

My use is quite atypical [1]. I don't do '(a)social media', photos,
'chat' [2] and all that stuff. I mainly use it for (car) navigation, as
a portable (Wi-Fi) hotspot for my *real* computer (laptop) and for
'apps' which are not available/possible on normal computers. I hardly
use it as a phone (i.e. calls/SMS). Also I don't spend multi hundreds of
dollars on one (current one was less than a hundred dollars). I carry it
with me no more than I would - and did - a 'dumb' phone.

The reason I bought one was the navigation apps. Much more flexible
and much cheaper than a dedicated hardware device ('GPS'/TomTom). The
other uses came later.

[1] My use is even atypical for the audience in comp.mobile.android,
which by itself is already atypical because of the combination of Usenet
and smartphones/tablets.

[2] Well, some 'chat' (WhatsApp [3]) with close family and only at home,
no mobile Internet when out of the house.

[3] Done on my laptop, i.e. real keyboard and real display. The phone is
only the receiving/transmitting device.

I haven't had a chance to hunt for it yet, But there used to be a
program where you could replace all Window Icons with different sets, I
will see if I can find it again.
Does whoever did this set have a passion for blue or did their ink cart
run dry of the other colours?

+1
I had a flip phone for calls, paid by the minute. I used 300 minutes a
year, so $30 a year.

But I finally got a smart phone for all the apps to automate my home,
sign-in for haircuts, and I've got it linked to my laptop (Linux) to
text people. I DO NOT use it while walking or driving. I'm on it
about 20 minutes a day.

My wife uses it during my doctor visits, she has to play hangman or
solitaire. LOL
