XP freezes after logo in starting
In ,
Beyond X typed: Windows XP pro SP2 was working trouble free until two days ago. Now when the computer is turned on, Windows starts normally past OS selection menu followed by large Windows XP logo. Then when the screen turned to small Windows XP logo over green background, the boot stops and nothing happens thereafter. I see the mouse pointer that I can move around, but nothing else. I tried Safe mode, last known good configuration, debbagging mode (no debagging happened), but none worked. Since many programs have been installed, I hate to install another Windows XP. Can someone help me solving this misterius trouble ? Have you tried backing up to a previous System Restore Point? Do so to a date prior to the problem showing up. Anythnig you've installed since that date will need to be reinstalled; System Restore Points essentially go back to a properly working Registry, whch might well be your problem. It sounds like you have no saved backups; get some soon! Then you could just Restore from one of those. You should do a backup everytime you install something new. Have you run chkdsk from a command prompt? chkdsk C: /f will repair any problems it finds. chkdsk C: /r will also test the disc surface for problems and recapture data from them if possible, and and move it to a good sector on the disk. Have you run AV? If so, what program? Did it find anything? Have you run any malware scans? If so, what programs? And what were the results? Have you run disc diagnostics to see if sectors on the hard drive are or have gone bad? The drve Mfg will have free testing program/s you can download and use. Download and run same. There's a LOT more can be done but that's enough to get you a good start. For the future, you MUST get a backup process working and kept current. Save them off to DVDs so they can't be damaged after their creation. Unless you have a hardware problem, which I doubt. It is seldom necessary to reinstall the OS. What version and SP Level are you using? Anser the question above to the best of your ability when you post back. It'll help people to figure out where you are. Give detailed results of your attempts also. Gve no opinions; just facts. HTH, Twayne` |
