Windows XP system restore
For the last few days my computer has been very sluggish and loading slowly.
I went to system restore last night to do a restore but I do not have any bold dates on the calendar there. I tried to go back on the calendar to the previous month but it did not work. I have numbers on calendar but none are bold. I called Dell computers and they helped with the' slow' issue by having me go to 'run' and typing in msconfig and unchecking the unnecessary start up programs. I use a registry cleaner/ junk files remover to clean up my hard drive, but I use their automatic setings. Can someone please help? -- SHOTYME3O3 |

Hi
One or more of the System Restore files could have been corrupted - try turning SR off/on - but I'm afraid that you will lose any existing checkpoints: Right click My Computer, select Properties and then the System Restore tab. Enable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and reboot your PC. After that 1st reboot go back into SR and disable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and reboot your PC again. After that 2nd reboot you should have one new SR checkpoint. Which particular registry 'cleaner' did you use? It could be that the so called 'cleaner' cleaned up more than it should have. -- Will Denny MS-MVP Windows Shell/User Please reply to the News Groups "SHOTYME3O3" wrote in message ... I did as you said and I have a sr checkpoint listed on the right side
calendar which formerly was blank, listing the restore time and date. The maintenace program I use is System Mechanic 5 and it does it all automatically. Thank you so much help. hello. regarding ur problem, i must first clarify some stuff according to my
personal experience. if you dun see any bold dates on ur calender, it means that no restore dates are available, possible reasons could be: a) system restore was disabled: run msconfig and see under services if "system restore service" is stopped or disabled. check it if it's disabled and restart. b) your computer is configured to not have any system restore mechanism to save disk space regarding why ur computer turns real sluggish, reasons really vary. to better help answer ur problem, i suggest you provide me with ur system specs and if possible programs that 'feel' sluggish when u run dem, den maybe i can help you in some way or another. when it comes to windows, there are some tweaks here and there. but whether they work or not varies in accordance with system specs and programs installed. |

just read your message shotyme303 and thought I may be able to offer some
help I had a similar problem with restore points or lack of, but since I have been using spybot every time I finish on the internet this seems to create restore points quite often if not almost every time. They sent out an update that screwed lots of machines on the 23rd. What you need to do is delete that pattern file and then update from pccillin. Can't recall the number, but it should be the largest numbered pattern file you have on hand. delete it, reboot, and update from the web. -- more pix @ http://members.toast.net/cbminfo/index.html |
