Help and Support Center is not working
Starting with DLL registration. Proceed to next method if one fails to
resolve the problem. Type in Start, Run dialog: helpctr -regserver regsvr32 itss regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx regsvr32 jscript Fix Windows XP Help - from Doug's site: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/fix...ws_xp_help.htm In _nothing_ helps, try reinstalling HelpCenter: Open %systemroot%\inf folder and locate the PCHealth.inf file (might show as PCHealth in W.Explorer). Right-click the file and choose "Install". Insert your XP CD when prompted. If you have a Service Pack installed, be sure to point to the %Windir%\i386\ServicePackFiles folder, or your slipstreamed XP CD (if available). -- Regards, Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows XP Shell/User] Windows® XP Troubleshooting http://www.winhelponline.com "walad_to7fah" wrote in message ... there is no error message. it's just i can't open it at all i click and click but there is no respond even when i restart the computer "Ramesh, MS-MVP" wrote: What's the error message? -- Regards, Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows XP Shell/User] Windows® XP Troubleshooting http://www.winhelponline.com "walad_to7fah" wrote in message ... Help and Support Center is not working
I will confess to being a pc dummy, but have followed all instructions from
numerous sites to fix my help and support center. I seem to have fixed the files from all the links to your site Ramesh (and kelly's korner and Doug's). I even managed to get my pchealth.inf back to do the reinstall. I still have no help and support. The part that will not work for me are under the instructions of: cd /d windir\pchealth\helpctr I get an error message that: system cannot find the path specified I sense that if I could figure this out I will have help and support back. All error messages have disappeared and help is listed under services now, yet when I try to open it nothing happens. The idea of doing a repair from disc is scary for a pc dummy! Yet I may have no choice if I can't figure this out "Ramesh, MS-MVP" wrote: You're welcome! -- Regards, Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows XP Shell/User] Windows® XP Troubleshooting http://www.winhelponline.com "walad_to7fah" wrote in message ... thanx alot it's work "Ramesh, MS-MVP" wrote: Starting with DLL registration. Help and Support Center is not working
Kathleen,
cd /d windir\pchealth\helpctr You need to include the % symbols as well. (%Windir%). Reinstalling Help and Support Center in Windows XP: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/rebuildhelp.htm Simply copy the commands listed in the above site to Notepad, and save the file with .bat extension ( say, helpfix.bat ). Double-click the bat file to execute the commands automatically. If that does not help, type in Start/Run: helpctr -unregserver and then type: helpctr -regserver -- Regards, Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows XP Shell/User] Windows® XP Troubleshooting http://www.winhelponline.com "Kathleen" wrote in message ... Help and Support Center is not working
I want to help ypu for all your help. You honestly are on the net
everywhere! All sites link back to you. I think over the last 5 years I have slowly destroyed most of xp, except explorer. I ended up doing a repair (OMG!) and went from 3 folders in HelpCtr folder (binaries/batch/logs) to 15 new folders. It also now works. If I copy the HELPCTR folder to my documents will I be able to use it to repair help and support later? Thank You again.
