XP has grinded to a halt almost
All of a sudden XP has gotten so slow that its not usable. its takes 10 min
to get desktop when booting and then each click of the mouse takes 2-3 min to react. I have ran several antivirus, spyware and they find nothing. The pc works fine in safe mode, but in normal boot is very sick. I have killed all startup and its the same. no virus found no spyware found I have done system restores to dates when it was fine and still no better. I have lots expierence with computers and this has got me baffled. Any ideas? Thank you |

XP has grinded to a halt almost
I'm sorry that I don't have any ideas to help, but I have a very similar
problem that I can't track down either. I am running xp pro and when using a browser iexplore.exe or explore.exe will use up to 100% of the cpu. The browser window zoom control will rapidly go up or down and keystrokes take minutes to register. Sometimes the zoom goes to 1000% and then I can set it back down to 100% but it immediately goes back to full zoom. I have run anti-spywa Spyware Doctor, and ExSoft SpySE nothing found I have run anti-virus: Norton I have run registry cleaners: Registry Mechanic and RegCure I have run Uniblue's Speed Up My PC My windows is updated I found no infections. The only thing that has worked has been to shut down and restart. That works for about twenty minutes or so and then the same problem repeats itself and it is back to square one. I too am out of ideas. Sometimes the zoom goes to 1000% and then I can set it back down to 100% but it immediately goes back to full zoom. I have run anti-spywa Spyware Doctor, and ExSoft SpySE nothing found Regarding SpySE 1. First, read what Eric Howes says about it he http://spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti...e.htm#xos_note Even though it's no longer listed as rogue, I wouldn't want to deal with a company with such a history. 2. Even if the company were guiltless, this has never been considered one of the better anti-spyware products. I have run anti-virus: Norton Ugh! Unquestionably, the worst anti-virus product on the market. I have run registry cleaners: Registry Mechanic and RegCure Ugh again! Running registry cleaners is one of the most dangerous things you can do. I strongly recommend *against* the use of registry cleaners. Cleaning of the registry isn't needed and is dangerous. Leave the registry alone and don't use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people think, and what vendors of registry cleaning software try to convince you of, having unused registry entries doesn't really hurt you. The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneously removing an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefit it may have. I have run Uniblue's Speed Up My PC And a final ugh! All programs of this sort are nothing but snake oil. They too are more likely to cause a problem than solve one. Assuming that all of this software hasn't caused your problem, I think your problem is most likely malware (probably spyware), even though you think you have protected yourself against it. The first thing to do is make sure that your system is malware-free. I recommend that you go to Malke's Malware Removal site at http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/...moving_Malware and follow the instructions there. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Please Reply to the Newsgroup |

After uninstalling it my computer ran properly. In the past i had the same problem and that time it turned out to be Windows Defencer, naturally microsoft were of no help and again i disabled it and my computer returned to normal. Disabling start up items and then restarting them one at a time can sometimes find the problem as well. Regards Robbie |
