anti virus software
Greetings --
Your point? I've seen people cross the road without looking, and they weren't hit by an on-coming bus *that* time. As they say in the investment game, "Past performance is no indication of future profits." Bruce Chambers -- Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html You can have peace. Or you can have freedom. Don't ever count on having both at once. - RAH "Unknown" wrote in message gy.com... Sheer hogwash and fear spreading. I do NOT, HAVE NOT ever used an AV program and what's more have NEVER had a virus. |

Greetings --
Not if one knows how to follow the relatively simple instructions that come with them, and know a little about computers and software in general. Most applications, whether anti-viral or otherwise, cause problems _only_ if used(misused) by the willfully ignorant. I'd say that response puts him in both categories; a fool
and a masochist, and I'd add that it has little knowledge of the real world to be able to say that so emphatically. Personally I hope he really has no protection, but it's abhorrant that his closed mind gets tossed at the unsupecting newbie. That's akin to abuse. Pop "Unknown" wrote in message gy.com... Sheer hogwash and fear spreading. I do NOT, HAVE NOT ever used an AV program and what's more have NEVER had a virus. "Bruce Chambers" wrote in message ... Greetings -- That's very bad advice. Given today's widely-publicized and well-known hostile Internet environment, only a fool or a masochist would go on-line without both a firewall and antivirus protection. People really shouldn't need to be told to use a firewall or an antivirus application, no more than they should need to be told not to stick their hands into an open flame. soon, so that you can get real. "Unknown" wrote in message gy.com... They cause far more problems than they prevent. "Bruce Chambers" wrote in message ... Greetings -- You'll get nearly as many differing opinions as you will responses. I used, and recommended, Norton Antivirus and then Norton Internet Security, for many years, on Win98, WinNT, Win2K, and WinXP, all without any significant problems. I had used McAfee prior to that. But it's been several years since I've been tempted to try McAfee products. Their quality seemed to take a steep nose-dive after they were acquired by Network Associates. However, when my subscription to Symantec's updates for Norton Internet Security 2002 came up for renewal (at a cost substantially higher than the preceding year's subscription), I decided to try less expensive solutions. I downloaded and installed the free version of GriSoft's AVG (http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php ) and the free version of Sygate's Personal Firewall (http://smb.sygate.com/free/default.php ). Both have proven to be easily installed, easy to use, and quite effective. Additionally, I was pleasantly surprised to see a small but very noticeable improvement in my PC's performance, once I'd replaced the Symantec product. I'm afraid you can't educate ANY of the users, other than
the types who would follow a prejudiced moron like you. You will be exposed anywhere you spread your hate and prejudiced teenie minded sloth in public. Go back and look for that used sock - you need it. Oh, and if you think you're ****ing anyone off, you arean't: Children like you aren't taken very seriously. I am glad however that you are not my neighbor. Pop "Unknown" wrote in message gy.com... Keep on running them. I cannot educate ALL the users. Of all my friends and relatives (and there are many) not one of us has ever gotten a virus save one. My brother bought a new system and did not turn on the firewall when he went to register with Microsoft, and he got the Blaster virus. Deleted it, and he still does not use an AV program. You can bet the firewall is turned on now however. "Gordon" wrote in message ... "Unknown" wrote in message gy.com... You.ve got to be STUPID to use an AV program. They only causes problems. Try looking at these - the great unwashed ARE stupid and need protecting from themselves. Perhaps you are one? http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/03...washed_masses/ Especially this one: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/02...is_you_muthas/ Until you can educate ALL users not to blindly click on any attachment that comes in their email then I myself will certainly run an AV prog, and mine causes me NO trouble whatsoever. |

The point is very simple. If you keep your system updated, the firewall on and
DO Not open unknown attachments you do NOT have to mess up your computer installing AV programs. Past performance? Have had personal computers since early eighties. You're so ignorant. Why don't you go to school. Take some courses on how to
win friends and influence people. Learn how to converse using facts instead of emotion and learn how to talk without name calling. Where were you raised?? "Pop" wrote in message ... Your KNOWN source may be infected without them knowing it - it happens all the time! |
