Windows Service Pack 2 Error
Daave,
I tried all of nass's suggestions, and the one that sort of worked was this FavOrg tool. FavOrg - Restore and Save Favorite Icons http://www.gratilog.net/anglais/internet/favorg.zip It seemed to restore about half of the bookmark icons in my Favorites back to the IE icon, but only about half of them. Now when I'm on a website, the icon on the URL is the IE icon. so yeah it worked. As far as the other half of the Bookmark icons, if I actually physically replace the bookmark with a new one from the same website, it will show IE icon. I have over 300 bookmarks, so I won't be doing that. I'll have to live with the unrepaired ones, until I slowly but surely replace them. Thank you again for all your help. Tom "Daave" wrote: Hmmm. Sometimes rebooting (even twice) can fix such a problem. If not, did you try the two Kelly's Korner tweaks from nass's post? Tom B. wrote: No, sir. No luck there. Still missing. I have the desktop IE icon. Just the URL IE icon is that weird piece of paper with the corner folded down thing. Thanks. Tom "Daave" wrote: Tom B. wrote: Here's one last problem. After I downloaded SP3 and upgraded to IE7, the IE icon that's to the far left of the URL, and is next to every IE Bookmark on your Favorites, is not the IE icon anymore. It's that weird icon you get when you have a file, but no program to support it? Know what I mean? It's white colored and it looks like a corner of a piece of paper is folded over? Get me? How do I get the IE icon back on the address bar next to the URL, and in my Bookmarks? Try this for starters: http://www.tipandtrick.net/2008/rest...indows-xp-sp3/ Any luck? |

nass,
Of all your suggestions, the FavOrg tool was the one that fixed it. Thanks!! You're a genius. The icon on the actual URL in the address bar now has the IE icon. About half of the bookmark icons in my Favorites are back to the IE icon. The other half are still that weird "unsupported file" icon. I found that if I physically replace the Bookmark with a new one from the same website, it will show the IE icon. Since I have over 300 bookmarks, I won't be doing that. I'll have to live with them until slowly but surely they get replaced. Thank you again for all your help! Tom "nass" wrote: "Tom B." wrote: Here's one last problem. Windows Service Pack 2 Error
Tom I think you installed SP3 first then IE7 which will make it difficult to uninstall IE7. Why? Because I'm guessing your IE installation not complete or damaged by interferring from the Anti-virus or the download interrrupted somehow/somewhere along the line!!! Last thing to try is to reinstall IE7 by downloading the installer from here and run it. Please disconnect from the internet and Disable your Firewall/Antivirus program then double click the installer to execute. Reboot your machine and the first thing to do is to RENABLE the Firewall/Antivirus program then reconnect to the Internet. Internet Explorer 7 downloads http://www.microsoft.com/windows/dow.../getitnow.mspx If the above didn't work try to Run the Disk Check up on Reboot and see if that will solve the issue. Other than that leave it it my need another security updates to sort out this mess. why don't you download from another computer?
"Tom B." escreveu na mensagem ... I have never installed Service Pack 2 because I always get an error 3/4 of the way through installation. My system has worked fine without it up until now. nass,
Yes, I did download SP3 first before I downloaded IE7. Reason being that I had SP1 before and couldn't download IE7 until I upgraded my Service Pack. I'll go to the website and re-download IE7 and let you know what happens. Tom "nass" wrote: Tom I think you installed SP3 first then IE7 which will make it difficult to uninstall IE7. Why?
