Default Thunderbird Password

This is a new Win XP install.
This is a new Thunderbird install.
I have four GMail and one Outlook account all imap.

Why does it take entering the Master Password three times to get it
allow access ?

I carefully enter the correct Master Password each time !

Why doesn't TBird allow seeing the password I type as an option ? Most
all other apps have that feature. Stupid on their part.

Win7 ng removed in reply. If you want to pose the question in another
newsgroup, I suggest on the news.mozilla.org news server group
mozilla.support.thunderbird.

- it isn't 'necessary' to have a master pass at all
- if you DO have a master pass, then you should be aware of what it
MEANS to be so configured.

Here is one explanation of what it means:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Master_password Master password

See the Using par

I like/prefer moz kb articles over the alternatives such as moz support.
That article was last mod/ed 2017 May and has been accessed almost a
million times. Often some 'old' content can be found in moz kb
articles, such as references to Tb 2.0.0.24 3 transition.

Example of moz support which has higher general search engine ranking
and you also get if you use Tb Help function:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...aster-password

There is a Tb add-on to help with the multiple master prompt problem

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thu...startupmaster/ Asks
for the master password at startup (fixes multiple password prompt)

(Add-ons have numerous 'reviews' which also contain valuable info for
solving problems with the add-on, as does this one)

Assuming you have gone to your gMail account and outlook account and set
the options to allow IMAP/Pop then the only plausible reason could be
that gMail and Outlook servers are filtering out XP connections and
taking extra special precautions when these devices try to connect. It
is impossible to know or guess anything when the connection goes
through after three attempts.

In thunderbird you can see the password you have saved so my question to
you is do you save your passwords in TB? I do so that I can connect
almost instantly when I launch TB.

x-Post to Windows 7 removed because you are not using it but abusing
it. Don't do it again.

To get _what_ to allow access? (XP? Thunderbird?) To _what_ - the
program itself? Your email? The news server?

No, I don't think I'd say as many as "most". I'd say less than half.

It could be that one or more of the keyboard buttons are starting to get
stuck or getting less sensitive, due to worn out. Try checking the number of
inputted characters before you press the OK button.

That feature exists ever since "social" feature have infected softwares.
While it could be useful for some users, it actually lowers the security
level.

What version of Thunderbird is it?

1. On the Thunderbird menu bar, select [Tools Options].

2. On the Options window, select [Security Passwords].

3. On the Passwords tab, select the Saved Passwords button.

4. On the Saves Logins window, select the Show Passwords button.

5. On the confimation popup, select the Yes button.

Do you see your passwords? The sites to which they apply are identified
by their servers.

Yes, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and other
"founding fathers" owned slaves. However, they created
a nation. Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, Thomas
"Stonewall" Jackson and other "heroes" of the
Confederacy tried to tear the nation apart. Statues
and other monuments to those "heroes" of the
Confederacy actually celebrate traitors and treason.

See my http://www.rossde.com/editorials/edtl_conf_flag.html.

It could be OAUTH related.

"Thunderbird 38.0.1 requires master password be entered twice after enabling Gmail OAuth"

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1070458

They make addons for Firefox, to make the password field
viewable. I will not list the keylogger which is also available :-)
This is to show that it's theoretically possible to add such a feature
with an addon. However, I don't think you really need this
as a debugging tool idea, since the password entries are likely
related to the GMail setup(s).
