PRN / Redirection?
A recent event revealed a gap in my understanding. I haven't tried doing
this for years and now it doesn't work - at least not the same as it used to. A friend and I have the same make/model printer. Mine connects to port USB002 on my XP pro machine. I had him print a document to file, zip and send it to me so I could print it. That failed so now I'll just get the source file and the application that goes with it. Then I can print a copy of it but... In the past, to print the file I would to copy the file to PRN or LPT1. I figured I could copy it to USB002. No!! So I tried the PRINT command from DOS. That fails too. It appears that this method would work if my printer was on LPT1. How do I achieve it in my situation? TIA -- Len |

PRN / Redirection?

Open printer properties, on the Ports tab check "Enable printer pooling", and then check LPT1 in addition to USB002. Sending the print job to LPT1 will - since an LPT1 printer is not ready - route the print job to USB002. -- /klaus |

PRN / Redirection?
Thanks Klaus
Next time I'll give that a go. As it happens I had a printer connected to LPT1 and I'll have to delete that first. While talking with a friend about this I realized I could have used NET USE to map the USB printer to LPT1. I don't know why I didn't think of that at the time. Anyway, I've got 2 ways to do it next time Thanks again -- Len "Klaus Jorgensen" wrote in message ... Len B wrote : In the past, to print the file I would to copy the file to PRN or LPT1.
