System tray Volume Incon missing, is this a XP Bug..?
Seen lots of complaints for this but no real fixes. So any bright MVP's that know how to fix it. Yes I have tried all the help I can find so far.. The Speaker Icon is OK in the Control panel.. But I would like it back in the system tray. Thanks.. XP Home SP1.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. (George Carlin) . Try Kelly's site: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm Why don't my Notification Area icons show or why do they disappear? I have found that (when using welcome screen) when I log in too quickly from a reboot, the volume icon disappears (along with others). If I wait until my floppy drive is scanned (twice-another annoyance) after a reboot or startup, then all is fine. Must have something to do with the time it takes to load all that needs to be loaded. |

Hi,
Put the XP CD and use this command EXPAND -R X:\I386\powrprof.dl_ C:\Windows\System32 with X: the letter of the CD-ROM drive. Later go to Start Run and type: regsvr32 stobject.dll With Regedit, find in the registry the following keys and enable the following variables or if needed change their values: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer NoSaveSettings DWORD type. Content: 0 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run SystemTray Alphanumeric type, content: SysTray.Exe HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Nla Start DWORD type. Content: 2 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Netman Start DWORD type.
