WLM 2009 and IE8
Hi, I recently have had my laptop go screwy in 2 directions; First, MSIE8 seems to have stopped working in full functionality, it can be used for basic functions and browsing of the web, but I've noticed if I do a search for "Vanity License Plates" that I end up with a web error page 404, but in firefox that same web page is loading well. It's very subtle in how the malfunctioning is occurring. This started abruptly several days ago, I cleaned the computer of all malware/spyware that could possibly be infecting the computer. Second, just yesterday, WLM 2009 build 14.xxx.xxx stopped working where I would log into it, and an error message saying that an error had occurred and the program needs to be closed. Nothing was changed, this happened abruptly without cause. I have tried to fix/reinstall/uninstall what I can for these 2 programs, but this doesn't seem to be working. WLM 2009 and IE8
Greetings,
Since you have a number of problems here, have you tried simply using the System Restore feature of Windows to attempt to go back to a previous day when it all was working? To do so, click Start, then Help & Support, then 'Undo changes to my computer using System Restore'. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "DrShikima" wrote in message news Hi, I recently have had my laptop go screwy in 2 directions; First, MSIE8 seems to have stopped working in full functionality, it can be used for basic functions and browsing of the web, but I've noticed if I do a search for "Vanity License Plates" that I end up with a web error page 404, but in firefox that same web page is loading well. WLM 2009 and IE8
Hello, Thanks for the response. Yes indeed I have tried. It says after the system restore that this option cannot be done at the time. As an update, I've uninstalled and reinstalled me IE. I was put back to a lower version of IE and found that I'm now able to do windows system updates (but not much of value there) and that while I was in IE7, I could browse fine but noticed that I had an awful lot of redirections on webpages. When IE8 was installed back onto the laptop, the same webpage, I was given a 404 error and told that the webpage couldn't be loaded. As far as messenger is concerned, I have tried multiple attempts and notice that I've got the same crash message with the window popping up with little evidence (other than some address.x86.dll) where the address changed but the .x86.dll remains the same. A google search did not produce any information. I suspect that the messenger problem is strongly related back to the IE problem. In all honesty, if I could wipe both clean (without a format), and reinstall this would be best. -- DrShikima ------------------------------------------------------------------------ DrShikima's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/113727.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-m...er/1212695.htm http://forums.techarena.in |
