Default New Sony HDD Camera

The files that I get from my new HDD camera have the file extension .mpg.
The problem is that the audio is integrated in the video and it is Dolby
Digital 5.1--WMM won't edit these files; I can't even play them in WMP. The
only program that plays them is the crappy program that comes with the
camera. There is limited editing in this program, but no effects, titles,
etc. Anyone know when a new version of WMM is coming out, or of any plugins
that might help?

Use a third party editor.... Nero, Roxio, WinDVD Creator or PowerDirector.

If the files it creates are MPEG2, and if you have DVD decoding software
installed on your PC, then Windows Media Player should be able to play them.
There will be no new version of WMM until Vista and even then I do not know
whether it will edit MPEG2 files.

According to Papajohn WMM in the Vista Beta at least does work with MPEG2
files.
