Default MSoft Publisher to Word?

Sometimes I design labels for people, using MSoft
Publisher.

But they know only MSoft Word, and will accept
only this.

I convert the label into PDF and then into MSoft
Word.

How can I convert from Publisher to Word in just
one step?

Peter

I don't think the options suggested here are all that good.

https://www.lifewire.com/open-pub-fi...lisher-1074669

Maybe you're already making the best of a bad situation.

*******

According to this, Publisher competes with
Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Publisher

LibreOffice can open your .pub file, but then what ?
Can you save it as a .odt ? The very first thing
to check for, when opening it in LibreOffice, is
seeing whether it opens in Writer or Draw. If it
opens in Writer, you're laughing. If it opens in
Draw, you're basically screwed (in terms of your
mission to change "domains").

Publisher is a page layout tool, not a word processor.

All these programs are living in their own
siloed world. Even if an interchange format exists,
that doesn't mean any other tool has to "respect it"
and do the right thing with it. LibreOffice is the
poster boy for this. You'll see many claims "oh yeah,
LO can open this for you", but when you see what
it's done to it, you'll gag. That's how this stuff
normally works.

Sometimes people need to be educated. Word is not the right tool and they
should be told as much.

Could you simply Cntl-A Cntl-C and then into word Cntl-V
Select all, Copy then Paste into word? I've never tried it but I do a
lot of copy paste from recipes on web pages and paste into word to
reformat.

We can try a test.

(File is virustotal clean. SHA1 d0864b0724ea4c07ad0800069ee931d5d93513bf)

https://cdn.online-convert.com/examp...ub/example.pub

Mine opened in LibreOffice Draw. The HTML export option
is just awful.

I guess about all I could do here, is use the original
Publisher (which I don't have), then make a PDF. Maybe
their Word could open that.

7-ZIP opens the .pub file and makes it visible as
some folders. If you needed to extract some artwork,
it's a place to start, with no certainty you could go
further. That example.pub file might not be complicated
enough to see all the curveballs Publisher can throw.

The file EscherDelayStm visible in the ZIP,
seems to be an image file, but GIMP wouldn't open
it (maybe because I didn't put an extension on it).
From Win10 Bash shell, "file EscherDelayStm" says
it's "data", which means Linux doesn't know what it is
either. That's putting a damper on my fun.

OK, if you remove the first 25 bytes from EscherDelayStm
with a hex editor, it's a standard JPG. Which then opens
in the tool of your choice. Once edited, you can put
an extension on it and make it EscherDelayStm.jpg so
it'll work better from File Explorer.

But surely the stupid .pub has SVG or some other tricks
up its sleeve. The example file above might not be showing
the true colors of Publisher.

The .doc and .docx formats will only save the text, no images.

Ā*Ā* Paul

I tried the Pub Test and simply did a select all and copy and then
opened Libre Writer and pasted that. It looks identical. Yes, I might
have to change margins as my template has 1/2 inch margins but other
than that it's identical.

I believe the .pdf stands for portable document format. It is primarily
designed to do exactly what you are attempting, namely permit a user to
open a document without regard to how it was originally generated. You
need to tell us why the recipient is unable to simply use the .pdf file.
In my experience, applications that purport to be able to import .pdf
files for further editing are iffy at best.

You're right Mick. I forgot.
I usually save mine in .pdf for those who don't have M$Pub and .jpg if they
are to go on a website. Everybody should be able to open .pdf and open OR
edit .jpg to some extent.

No problem with Serif PagePlus and DrawPlus, although you can only save
as pdf again or the native serif format.

Yes, pdf is a common format that everyone should be able to read.
The original posters client wanting the file in Word format is just
laziness on their part not wanting to learn other ways AFAIKS.

Because he's not as intelligent as you are; His IQ is 19; your IQ is
