Default How to find TCP/IP address of a computer

If you are inside a network and are trying to locate the
ip address of a specific machine there are a couple of
different routes.

If you know the machine name you can type ping -a
(machine name) from a command prompt and you should get
it.

To get to a command prompt click START, RUN and then type
COMMAND in the box (assuming you are using 2000, XP or
ME). If it's Win98 then click on your MSDOS icon.

If you are outside a network you probably won't be able
to figure out the IP address of any machine since most
firms use firewalls that translate the IP addresses to
something else as the traffic passes through their
routers.
