Default XP SP2 Clean Install?

Hi. Will you be able to do a clean install of XP SP2
with just the free XP SP2 CD that you will be able to
order soon? Or will Microsoft come out with retail boxed
versions of XP SP2? I saw some preorders of retail boxed
version at buy.com and amazon.com that are available.

You would install XP from your current install disk, then install SP2 from
the SP2 CD.

At some point, retail versions of XP will include SP2. So will OEM versions.

Your install of either of these versions will look exactly like:

1. Install XP from current install disk, Install Network Version of SP2

2. Install XP from current install disk, Run Windows Update, install SP2

3. Slipstream Network Install of SP2 with current XP install disk. Install
XP SP2 from that disk.

4. Install XP from current install disk then install SP2 from SP2 CD.

except for oddities installed by the different OEM versions. XP SP2 will be
the same.

Hope this helps.

Dick,

Dick, will the retail versions of XP that will include SP2 say on the box
that SP2 is included? I have never seen a retail box of XP say that SP1 has
been included on the box of XP.

I am curious and would like to know.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I don't know. I don't even know if current XP retail versions say
that they contain SP1. If you are planning to buy a copy of XP,
however, it doesn't really matter, since you can get SP2 for free
by several routes. So I would say not. Otherwise retailers
would have difficulty selling their copies. I will check a box
at the next opportunity.

That being said, I certainly can see that having a CD with
XP SP2 on it would be beneficial. This is why I already have
a slipstreamed CD. Note that I have had trouble slipstreaming
the OEM disk of XP that I have because the network install
of SP2 balks at updating the XP files-it says that the OEM
disk is already slipstreamed, and that you can't slipstream
a slipstreamed disk. I didn't have this problem with SP1.

Not Dick, but I doubt it will be printed on the outside of the box, but the
CD usually has SP versions stamped on the CD.

Dick,

Thanks for your comments and insight. I was just curious about how Microsoft
will box an XP version with SP2.

My home LAN has been set up with SP2 since it was available around August 9
on the IT professional site.

Thanks again for your input and comments.

The Box says Version 2002 in the lower right.
On the side panel it says, May require the most current
service pack.

Hence 2004 or 2005?

I did read that it will be marks Service PAck 2?

SSJJ2005 now with SP2! ----My guess.
