Default SP2 Good Upgrade

Well I took the plunge and downloaded the SP2 upgrade. Even with a DSL
connection it took a little over an hour. Then I ran the install and that
took a good bit of time also.

But in the end everything seems to be working fine. In fact I can't tell
that the upgrade even did anything to my system. No settings were changed,
nothing new appears to have been added anyplace, my system looks and runs
exactly the way it did before the upgrade.

I guess thats a good sign.

Default SP2 Good Upgrade

Greg;

It's nice to hear someone say something good about SP2. I installed on
all 4 of my computers at home, and I also have nothing but good things to
say about it. Too bad the doom-and-gloomers can't just ask for help but
insist on blaming all the world's ills on SP2.

That's basically the way how they ask for assistance.

Not really. One should take into account a users total frustration before
they resort to using this newsgroup. When a person posts about a problem
replying "I don't have any problems" is not at all helpful.
Some go so far as to deny any and all problems.
I have always thought groups like this were DESIGNED to sort out problems
not to attack, deny and defend.

Hi greg,
did you download the SP2 pack from
http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/...3-9-177.shtml?

I also wonder if this pack works for the XP Professional version.

I have updated 4 machines (Professional & Home) which have everything from
raid, wireless, video editing, scanners, cameras etc. and have had no
problems. I think the secret is to have a clean OS before applying the SP2
update.

Charlie,
That might be correct. I keep my system as clean as possible
at all times. I run 3 different spyware programs at least once a week,
defrag about every 2 months or so, and I'm selective, almost to the point
of phobic about what programs I put on my system and I run Windows Washer
every day.

Doesn't sound like it to me that big Severity Center pop up is hard to miss!

No he did not because it *CANNOT* be downloaded from there. It refers back
to the MS download link. No site, other than the official (i.e. MS) is
allows *BY LAW* (yes, MS has done it again) to host it, or any future MS
downloads.

Hi Bert,
In your earlier post you provided a link and asked if that
was where I downloaded WindowsXp SP2. No, I did not get it from that site.
This is the link that someone posted on this newsgroup and that I used:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Hope this helps.
