MS Mouse Not All There
MS Wireless mouse 4000 Window XP Pro. All but two function work. Not working is the side and scroll buttons. I went in to Control Panel Mouse and it says it cannot find a Microsoft Mouse so there is no way now to get these two needed buttons to work. How do I get it all working ? If I need to download something, please provide details. Thank you. |

Win7 minimum for the currently visible one. https://www.microsoft.com/accessorie...ile-mouse-4000 ******* Intellipoint 8.0 is here, and claims WinXP SP3 as a member of the family. Click the red button to start the download. Thank goodness an internet archive, is keeping Microsoft afloat. I hope during the last fundraising drive, Microsoft donated a million bucks for the bandwidth they're sucking out of this site. https://web.archive.org/web/20160306...s.aspx?id=3591 ( https://web.archive.org/web/20151017..._8.0.225.0.exe ) Name: IPx86_1033_8.0.225.0.exe Size: 14709624 bytes (14 MiBloons) SHA1: ED011DF183DF468E11315D785599573C20F8FD12 These Intellipoint drivers may or may not support your mouse, which is part of the fun I guess. The Wikipedia article claims at some point, Microsoft removed support for PS/2 Microsoft products. It's faster for you to just try the driver, than for me to tear the wings off it and see what makes it tick. Paul |

MS Mouse Not All There
Drats ! Installer IPx86_1033_8.0.225.0.exe says a later version is already installed so it stopped. I found IPX86_1033_8.20.468.0.EXE now that I know how the filename is formed. Tried to rerun IPX86_1033_8.20.468.0.EXE but says I have to uninstall it first. How ? Trying Revo Uninstaller. Installed IPX86_1033_8.20.468.0.EXE but no joy. The MS 4000 SIDE button seems to do a like a back arrow in Explorer and elsewhere. Did that before but would need the magnifier on the left button to be happy. I tried different thing in the Control Panel Mouse but no joy there either. Paul wrote: Micky wrote: MS Wireless mouse 4000 Window XP Pro. All but two function work. If I need to download something, please provide details. Went to https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-us. Clicked on "Mice". Clicked on "Learn more" (or the mouse picture) for the "Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000". Clicked on "Downloads". Under the "Software & Drivers" listbox, Windows 7 is listed (for 32-bit and 64-bit). You never identified the bitwidth of your OS. Once you pick a bitwidth for the OS, the software link changes to match. In this test, I picked "Windows 7 (32-bit only)". The software link changed to "Windows 7 (64-bit only), Mouse and Keyboard Center 11". Clicking will download a MouseKeyboardCenter_64bit_ENG_12.181.exe, 45.9MB. So, have you actually retrieved the software needed to define the extra features of that mouse beyond a generic HID (Human Interface Device)? This device did not come with software media to install the necessary ancilliary software beyond just the reference software that comes bundled in Windows? Did you even search before posting, or was this a knee-jerk inquiry? You also find the Quick Start manual there. Presumably you also don't have that manual since since it gives the URL from which you obtain the software downloads for Microsoft's hardware. Often software is media no longer bundled with hardware (and for software required to define the hardware beyond a generic device). It should have come with a tiny booklet (the manual is very short) that mentions where you download the software, or it might've been printed on the packaging. |

I tried different thing in the Control Panel Mouse but no joy there either. IP = Intellipoint Microsoft replaced that later with Mouse and Keyboard Center (see my other reply *if* "MS Wireless mouse 4000" is the same one that I found going to Microsoft's hardware page). There is no "Intellipoint" listed in Add/Remove Programs? Also, you never bothered to mention the bitwidth of your Windows 7 instance. Drivers MUST match the bitwidth of the OS. The "IPx86" in the filename hints that it is the installer for a 32-bit version of Windows. So, are you running Windows 7 x86 (32-bit) or Windows 7 x64 (64-bit)? http://www.inbox.com/article/how-to-...ellipoint.html (found by a Google search on "how uninstall intellipoint") If not, I'd try using Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) to right-click on the mouse and choose Uninstall. On a reboot, the generic or reference driver will get installed for that HID (Human Interface Device). Then you install the software mentioned in my other reply (if that's your mouse). |

Oops, I read your cross-posted article in the Windows 7 newsgroup to which you invalidly cross-posted. You stated you are using Windows XP, yet you cross-posted to the Windows 7 newsgroup. Your issue is not with Windows 7 other than Microsoft doesn't support that OS with that mouse. Their software supports Windows 7 and above, not Windows XP. You bought a mouse that is not supported back in Windows XP because it doesn't have the ancilliary software to work in that old OS. You can try to install Intellipoint with the correct bitwidth version, which for Windows XP is 32-bit ("Windows XP" with not bitwidth qualifier means the x86 version). However, that old software was not designed nor supports communication with your mouse. |
