Privacy, divorcing from Google ... is there ANYTHING you use from Google that we can't replace with freeware?
Privacy, divorcing from Google ... is there ANYTHING you use from Google
that we can't replace with freeware on the Windows platform? We've already easily eliminated Google accounts on iOS & Android, where there's never a need for a Google ID or Google app. o Is there any free FUNCTIONALITY that you need to do on Android, that you can't do WITHOUT a Google Account? https://groups.google.com/d/msg/comp.mobile.android/xzaii4eUY_E/WeY-r7_OAAAJ Is it the same on Windows? For the benefit of the remaining adults on this newsgroup, I've explained umpteen times how you can EASILY avoid using Google Groups to search the Usenet archives, simply by using the non-Google-groups web-search engines. For example: o http://alt.comp.os.windows-10.narkive.com o http://alt.comp.freeware.narkive.com o http://microsoft.public.windowsxp.general.narkive.com And, while it stinks, this non-google-groups web searchable Usenet archive: o http://tinyurl.com/alt-comp-os-windows-10 Where those above are listed as replacements for these below: o http://tinyurl.com/windowsxp-general (there's a 30-character limit) o http://tinyurl.com/alt-comp-freeware] Note EACH POST to Usenet should contain added on-topic technical value! -- The problem with these two trolls is that they post with 0 helpful intent. occam & Dan Purgert But what's worse, is that they _can't_ ever post with any helpful intent. Just watch. They will add zero on-topic technical value to this thread. More importantly, that they can only troll is on the permanent record. For their grandchildren to enjoy, perhaps, since what we post is forever. |

Arlen _G_ Holder wrote in : For the rare adult on this newsgroup, can you add a purposefully helpful suggestion as to what search engines I may have missed? The obvious one, to my mind, is twitter https://twitter.com/search?q=SEARCH1[+SEARCH2...] I'm presuming Fakekook has its own search engine too, a site I use so rarely I'm not sure. Some tech sites such as stackoverflow or stackexchange have their own search boxes (not 100% sure if they use Google behind the scenes). Many of the search portals query the Google database so have to supply Google with data mining info if I understand correctly though they might work without JavaScript which may be of some value. |
