Bluestacks VM: Can its Android apps run transparently (look like they're running in Windows)?
Windows 10 Home x64 build 1903
My inquiry is about running VMMs (Virtual Machine Managers) on Windows 10, not about a Windows 10 issue. Virtualbox has its seamless mode. VMware Player has its unity mode. These make programs running under a guest OS inside a virtual machine look like they are running on the host OS. That is, say the host OS is Windows 10 and you run Ubuntu as the guest OS inside a VM, but the Linux apps look like they're running in your Windows 10 host. You don't get distracted by seeing the Linux apps running inside a windows showing the desktop for the guest OS. The apps running inside the Linux guest OS appear to be running on your Windows host. I'm wondering if Bluestacks, yet another virtual machine manager but for Android, can be made to run in seamless or unity mode. That is, I'd like to run Android apps on my Windows host but VM for the Android guest OS is transparent (you don't see the guest OS' desktop), so all you see is the Android app on your Windows host. Microsoft is coming out with app mirroring using their Your Phone app in Windows 10. Alas, what that does is mirror the screen of your Android phone on your Windows 10 PC. That style of "emulation" has been around for many years. I trialed AirDroid a couple years ago. Mobizen was another choice, but I didn't trial that one. You enable USB Debugging Mode on the Android phone, install the ADB (Android Debugging Bridge) driver on your Windows host, and use a USB cable, wifi, or use Internet connectivity to connect your Windows host to your Android phone. This mirrors your Android phone's screen on your Windows host. Nope, not what I want. That has you running the app on your Android phone and mirroring the phone's screen to your Windows host which means the scheme doesn't work if your phone isn't reachable, like it is powered off, plus the app is running on your phone instead of on your Windows host (under a VMM). Think of VNC or TeamViewer where you get to see on one host what is running on another host. I don't want mirroring of my Android phone onto my Windows' desktop. I want independent loading of an Android app on my Windows host, but without even seeing the Android app is running inside a VM. The Android app is running inside a VM, but that operation is transparent to the user. The user just sees the window for the Android app on their Windows desktop. If Bluestacks doesn't support a seamless mode, I suppose I could use VMware Player that runs Android as a guest OS, and have VMware Player run in seamless mode. |
