Default Unable to manage groups in messenger

Jonathan, et al,

I've recently installed Windows messenger 5.0 for my IT
team and found some installations allow the creation of
groups while others (my own included) do not. The manage
groups option under tools is grayed out completely. How
can I activate the manage groups option? (Or what is
causing it to be "off"?)

Greetings Stacy,

Do you happen to be connecting to an Exchange IM Server? If so, Exchange IM doesn't support
Groups and as such, will be unavailable.

Thanks Jonathan. That explains alot. I read in a technet
note that if you have .net enabled in addition to
exchange account, you can create groups and copy the
exchange accounts into the group but that doesn't seem to
work either. Is the technet note out of date. I'm
guessing if Exchange doesn't support groups then exchange
accounts aren't supported in .net groups at all. Is that
correct?
