Frequent defragmentation
Hi. My hard drive requires frequent defragmentation. I
have Norton Utilities set up to alarm when fragmentation goes below 95% unfragmented. This happens every couple of days. When I do defrag either thru Windows defrag or Norton speed disk, the fragmentation goes back to 100% unfragmented, only to go to 95% in a couple of days. Have never had this before on other computers. When I looked at a report, it seems that system files are the most fragmented. Also, I spoke to my Computer mfg [WinBook] who did not feel it was a sign of drive failure [plus I run Smart Drive] which is a Norton product that supposedly monitors the hard drive for failure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

While this is true, it's probably not necessary to defrag every few days. Most everything NU does can be accomplished with the native chkdsk, defrag, and a few shareware or freeware products. -- Winerr 012 - Cash Underflow - Credit Card Number Will Be Assimilated |
