If your hard drive crashed, how sure are you that the data you are looking for survived the crash? Assuming you used Outlook Express, you'll find the address book in \Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book and the emails in the *.dbx files in \Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\[string of numbers/letters]\Microsoft\Outlook Express The address book and email folders can then be imported into OE once you have transferred them to your new PC. If you are using another email client, you'll have to check a newsgroup for that client for specific instructions. ....danny |

Use this freebie tool to do it all: http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/backup/ -- Bruce Hagen ~IB-CA~ There's a program called ABF Outlook Express Backup that's designed specifically for OE backup purposes, including messages, settings, address book, rules, etc. The program also has an option to back up your Favorites as well. I've been using various versions of it for nearly a year now and find it a very useful program. While there are freebie, or near-freebie programs available for backing up OE, including the one Bruce mentions, as well as manual procedures to backup OE, the simplicity, ease of operation, and effectiveness in what it does make that ABF program very appealing to me. Take a look at it at: http://www.abf-soft.com/outlook-express-backup.shtml The cost of the program is $29.95 (download - $10 extra for the CD) and they have a free 30-day evaluation download available. I find the program well worth its cost. Art |
