Having windows NOT ask to choose user when booting up
Win XP HE SP2
Follow-up to microsoft.public.windowsxp.basics Hi, I would like to know if there is a way NOT to have Windows ask me to choose User Account upon boot-up. There is only 1 user using my computer and I hate having to choose myself as the User, it's a waste of time. Can I have Windows boot-up to User name by default without waiting for me to choose? Tx, S |

In the box that pops up, replace Administrator in the "User Name" box with your user account. Enter your password twice. Note: You can leave the password box blank if your account does not have a password. Click OK twice and reboot to see if you get the desired results. Nepatsfan |

Simply, remove your password. How? Go to Start - Control Panel - User Accounts then click an account then click "Delete password" or something. Having windows NOT ask to choose user when booting up
Hello Sat
What Tsuniper-X said will work, but if you already have a password on your account, it's a shame to make it less secure by getting rid of it. Instead go to Start Run and type in: Control userpasswords2 ok In the box that appears, click on your name, then uncheck the box that says "Users must use a password. . .", and hit Apply. A dialog should appear with your name already filled in. Type in your password twice, as requested, then OK twice to close. The next time you reboot Windows will log you in automatically. Hope this helps. -- Nightowl |
