Default XP fresh install and SP2 woes

Hope someone can help :-(

** Should I Repair installation?

** OR Reinstall AGAIN?

MOBO: ABIT NF7-s version 2.0 with on-board SATA RAID

AMD Athlon XP2500+

nVidia Nforce 5600XT Video adapter.

There's something odd going on with this particular (3rd time trying)
installation of
XP...

After successfully loading the MOBO drivers on second attempt, I
successfully installed XP (this is a pre SP1 version).

None of the onboard USB drivers,LAN drivers or VGA drivers loaded, so I had
to reinstall those from the MOBO CD.

The first thing I noticed was the display took about 1 minute to display the
desktop and icons on login... Updating the Video card drivers didn't help.

I then applied SP2.

On reboot, the "found new hardware wizard" detected the plug and play
monitor and updated the drivers.

On second reboot, the "found new hardware wizard" detected the plug and play
monitor and updated the drivers AGAIN!

I then discovered these issues:

.. The screen still takes about a minute to display the desktop

.. I DO have connectivity to network and internet, BUT the "My Network
Places" window doesn't show ANY network connection symbols... i.e. the
normal one where you can right-click and select properties, check
firewall etc.

.. I can't map a network drive

.. I can't uninstall SP2

.. I can't do system restore

.. The "Help and Support" file doesn't launch when I double click either !?!

I've updated drivers on the network card and graphics card, although the
latest drivers are already installed

Use an XP installation CD slipstreamed with SP2 for the initial install.

The list of programs not working suggests a virus may have visited you at
some stage.. I would be tempted to write zeros to the drive and then start
over..

OK thanks for that:

I'll report back later once I've reinstalled
