Do I have to keep both messengers?
Because my Windows Messenger 5.1 has been anything but working
correctly...shutting down and restating whenever and not functioning at all sometimes...I decided to install Windows Live Messenger. My question is: Do I have to keep Windows Messenger 5.1 for any reason? Is Live Messenger an MSN thing or a Windows thing...and I've never understood the difference...anyway...do I need to keep my 5.1 around? ... and if so...why please? Thanks Tim

Do I have to keep both messengers?
I believe that it cannot be removed as its a built in piece of Windows
software, like Movie Maker, though you can remove access to it. StartControl PanelAdd or Remove Programs Windows Components then untick the box for Messenger (this will remove the Start Menu links), then open IE ToolsManage Add-ons then find the "Messenger" add-on and choose"Disabled" then restart IE. Thanks...I knew I could disable it, but do I need it in some capacity for
receiving ...something???? I've heard that you need Windows Messenger to receive ...(updates or ....something???) And I've also heard that MSN Messenger does not do whatever that is??? If Windows Live Messenger is MSN Messenger, then will I still need my Windows Messenger running? Wow, that's a lot of two fingered typing Messenger for me. Thanks again for info. I know that Windows Messenger is needed for Media Centre though thats because
its in the list for other programs so I wasn't surprised, but remember, all the stuff I've told you only removes a users access so you don't have to bother with it. but it does not prevent it running (msmsgs.exe) typing that in the Run dialogue should still bring it up "Treeskier" wrote: Thanks...I knew I could disable it, but do I need it in some capacity for receiving ...something????
