Problem with explorer

This mfc44.dll doesn't exist on my computer and a search in Google suggests you are possibly the only user who has it! This suggests malware. What are the properties of the file in the system 32 folder? Place the cursor on the file in Windows Explorer and select File, Properties, Version tab. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.32 -freeware (if you upgrade you pay). http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes...-10804572.html Run Malwarebytes' in safe mode and turn off your current anti-virus before you do to avoid a conflict. Disregard the invitation on the web site regarding the Registry Optimiser -a Registry Optimiser is not a helpful utility. -- Hope this helps. Problem with explorer
I'd agree that explorer is on every PC. But it might be calling that DLL
because of some installed application. Right clicking on the desktop is often to set the display settings that's why I thought it might be a driver. You could also try replacing the DLL in the system32 folder with the one from the i386 folder. (perhaps backup the original first before replacing it) Neil "Jeffrey Needle" wrote in message newsp.uswvjgorftg7du@d9ns6561... I thought explorer.exe was on *every* computer, along with the specified dll file. On Fri, 24 Apr 2009 15:34:13 -0400, neil wrote: If it's any help I don't have that file on my system. This might suggests it's part of an installed application and not native to windows. Could it be something to do with your display driver if it errors only when you right click in the desktop. Neil "Jeffrey Needle" wrote in message newsp.uswmwtouftg7du@d9ns6561... I hope this is the right place to ask this question. I'm having problems with Windows Explorer. It generally happens when I right-click on my desktop. The problem is that is error is sporadic -- sometimes Windows works correctly, but many times it crashes. When the system crashes, I get an error message that the module in trouble is explorer.exe, and it references the mfc44.dll file. I've gone through my system and renamed the mfc44.dll's that exist on my system, keeping only the correctly named dll in \windows\system32. The version in c:\I386 would not allow the rename. This enabled me to see what would happen if Windows thought there was only the one copy of mfc44.dll on my system. This didn't help -- same problem. Any thoughts? Is there a repair tool available that I can use? My computer didn't come with a WinXP CD, so I don't have access to the repair tool on the CD. I'm on a Dell Desktop system, WinXP. Well, I've posted the contents of my HOST file. Looks pretty simple. I'm hoping the single line (other than comments) in the file) won't cause problems.

I'm really confused. There are thousands of Google references to the dll, and the Microsoft site tells us that it is installed whenever an app uses C++.

ok then.
I haven't read the other suggestions but since safe mode is also crashing the explorer then you might try to do a "repair install" with a win cd before considering issues pertaining to hardware. if you only have an sp2 win cd but the pc is updated to sp3, then uninstall sp3 via add/remove programs. perhaps, you might want to see if uninstalling sp3 resolved the issue. if not, then proceed with the "repair install". -- db·´¯`·...¸)))º DatabaseBen, Retired Professional - Systems Analyst - Database Developer - Accountancy - Veteran of the Armed Forces - @hotmail.com "share the nirvana" - dbZen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Jeffrey Needle" wrote in message newsp.uswxaqsiftg7du@d9ns6561... Thanks. I'll try these options. I'll have to get a CD from a friend -- my Dell Desktop didn't come with an XP CD.

That revelation makes quite a difference G. Could you please post a complete copy of the Error Report in Event Viewer. You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important. A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Right click on the Report in the list and select Properties. In the window, which appears are three buttons towards the top right of the window. The top one has an arrow up, underneath is an arrow down and third is a button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer. It is not obvious but this action places a copy of the report in your Clipboard. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer. -- Hope this helps. In article ,
says... Your host file is the standard default windows host file it has not been modified and is not what is causing your issue. Leythos lied to you on purpose to confuse you. As for your issue try re-registering that dll file. I didn't like, I told you want PCBUTTS himself has said and done - some of his pirated files will modify the HOST file on your computer and it will block access to some sites - Chris, you've said this yourself, many times. -- - Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum. - Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist" (remove 999 for proper email address) |
