Most 5 year olds pick it up in about 15 minutes. Have you
bothered to read the labels on the menu or take the "tour?"

I'm sure that if you know how to significantly improve those aspects,
Microsoft would love to hire you. They've done it as best as they can
and IMHO it's a heck of an improvement over prior versions. Did you
ever try to learn 200 DOS or Unix commands?

Over the weekend I watched as my grandson turned on my computer by first
turning on a surge protector, then the switch on the computer case, waited
patiently for the login screen, selected a user login that I had created for
him but hadn't told him about, clicked on Start, then All Programs, then
found the games menu and the Labyrinth game in the submenu, started the
game, selected the difficulty mode, and began to play. He's 3 1/2 years
old.
What's *your* problem?

They did, well as far as I'm concerned it is a very good OS and has far
more going for it than before, even I can't crash it.

I make a good buck helping adults with their computer questions. My favorite
is the guy who had his computer for over one year and never knew what the
right mouse button was for. Whenever he clicked it (by mistake) he would
quickly shut down his computer when the "little window" popped up, because
he was afraid that something was wrong.

I asked him how many times he had done this and was told "literally
hundred's of times"

Now maybe if that little window had a title called "options" he could have
fathomed what it was all about.

So, I think it could be a bit more user friendly. What's obvious to you and
I is not necessarily obvious to a plain user.

Here's something that made me giggle. I subscribe to a UK mag called PC
Format and they have their own forums. The other day there was a guy
complaining that system restore wasn't working and he couldn't create a
restore point (it turned out that the SR service had been stopped for some
reason). That wasn't the funny bit - he began his post (and this is a direct
quote) "I work on a large computer helpdesk and consider myself a expert
with all aspects of computers". The reason he needed to create a restore
point? He wanted to flash the BIOS and wanted to restore if anything went
wrong! I pray his boss never reads the group! Needless to say he was flamed
mercilessly for it.

If it gets any more cute & cuddly, I'd get nauseous. Seriously, I
don't see how an operating system could possibly be dumbed-down any
further. It's a real nuisance having to turn off all of the
user-friendly features just so I can actually put the computer to use.

What particular facets of WinXP are giving you trouble?
