Where do I set the WEP Key in windows XP?
I have a 802.11g wireless card on a Sony Laptop running XP Home. It is a
TI chipset and a TI driver. It's been working fine, but recently I wanted to add WEP to my network. After adding it, my Mac simply asked me for the password the next time I tried to connect and everything was fine. However, the XP machine can't even see the network now. The wireless network properties window doesn't look like the default one I see in most screen shots when I google for this problem. I assume it may be due to some odd setting with these particular drivers? Here are all the options I have with this one: Authentication Mode CCX Security Type Desired Basic Rate Set Desired BSS Type Desired IBSS Protection Desired SSID Desired Supported Rate Set Desired TxPower Desired TxRate ELP Support Fragmentation Threshold Leap enabled Leap username mixed mode mode 4x multiregulartory domain Power Mode Privacy Mode RTS Threshold Short Preamble Spectrum Management WEP Option I've set WEP Option and Privacty Mode to be WEP and the Desired SSID = my network The problem is that I have yet to find anyplace on this machine to actually enter the WEP password. Anyoen have any suggestions? |

Where do I set the WEP Key in windows XP?
I think the "Wireless Zero Configuration" service (WZC) is not started. Go to
Admin Tools - Services to start it and set it to start automatically. Then you will be find that there is a "Wireless" tag at the wireless NIC properties page. The following page may help you: http://www.practicallynetworked.com/qa/qa20040311.shtml Martin "darrel" wrote: I have a 802.11g wireless card on a Sony Laptop running XP Home. Martin:
That's it! THANKS! That's got to be one of the more illogical/unintuitive Windows things I've found yet. *sigh* -Darrel |
