Default Stop IE from being used by certain apps

I NEVER use the piece of crap browser otherwise known as IE, and never
will. I have Mozilla set as my default browser and 99% of the apps I
use recognize it as such. However, the other 1% insists on firing up IE
in order to access a link on their web site (SpySubtract by InterMute
comes to mind). I DO NOT want IE to fire up, ever. Since I already
have Mozilla set as my default browser, what else can I do to make sure
it ALWAYS comes up when a link is selected?

Thanks!

Internal Explorer is an integral component of Windows XP
and cannot be removed. I would suggest using it in lieu of
the inferior Mozilla third-party browser.

If you were to figure out how to remove IE (and you won't), you would be
unable to update Windows.

I suggest that you switch to Linux.

All you can do is chill. To fix the problem you're talking about would
require recoding the applications which are erroneously calling IE in
the first place. IE isn't the problem here, it's the other apps.

Or if you're looking for entertainment you could always go rant at the
SpySubtract people for having poorly coded software. Ranting at
Microsoft ain't going to help any in this case.

Good luck getting it fixed...

Carey,

Since our Computer Club has installed Firefox 1.0 on its 29 computers, those
of us who have to maintain the intranet have had very few malware programs on
the computers. We have removed the shortcuts ot IE to prevent the die-hards
from using IE. Quality is defined as meeting or exceeding the expectations of
the user. IE's vulnerabilities does not meet our expectations. Firefox 1.0
exceeds our expectations.

Our Club's in-home service personnel, install Ad-aware and Firefox on
members computers to reduce the service calls. It is working. We can now
concentrate on real problems.

What is your definition of "inferior." Firefox with upwards of 56 extensions
that may be installed at the users options, provides more function than one
needs.
