Default Decrease Performance

Hi,
I am concerned with my computer performance. It appears
that after i downloaded SP1, it decreased my overall CPU
Speed. Is this problem just withing my computer, or does
it happen to other people. If there is a way, can anyone
tell me how to regain my CPU's performance.
Thanks for your help!

It can take up to 3 days for the prefetch file to rebuild.

Also try:
Run an updated virus scan.
Run Disk Cleanup checking all boxes except "Compress old files"
Run Defrag.
If you have file sharing software such as Kazaa, disable it.
Check this link:

Run Ad-Aware (free version) or Spybot to check for spywa

In the first place, your CPU speed is determined by hardware, not software,
and neither increases nor decreases.

If you notice that your computer seems to be responding more slowly after
updating with SP-1a, that is likely due to the pre-fetch, which can take a
few days to re-build, depending on how much you use your computer in a day.

Without going into needless detail, the pre-fetch function of Windows XP
arranges your software so as to make your computer boot and run more
efficiently, which translates into 'faster'. After a major update, the
pre-fetch needs to be rebuilt by the operating system. In time you should
recover your previous 'zing'.
