Add/Remove Programs has a huge blank
Hi All,
I was cleaning up my computer and when I went to the add/remove programs, there is a huge void. By this I mean, there are about 10 programs listed, then there is a void in the list that could easily hold 100 entries, then the rest of my programs. If I click in the void, it highlights the entire void grey. It is like there is a program installed but it has no name, description, or ability to remove. My computer is running quite slow. I have done everything else that has been listed in this newsgroup (within reason), just wondering if this could be a problem. No viruses or spyware. Thanks Chad |

Go to run, type:appwiz.cpl See what shows in add/remove.If still a problem,
go to run, type:cmd In cmd type:Sfc /Scannow When its thru, type: CHKDSK C: /F Agree to restart, type:EXIT Restart pc.Also, maybe create a new user account, open in new,try add/remove,if it works, old account is corrupted. Go to Kellys website. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_a.htm About 1/3 the way down the page you'll see a heading "add/remove-white space" download both auto cad edits to your desktop, run the first one and reboot,is the problem gone? Great, if not run the second one and reboot. Or if you feel good editing the registry yourself Kelly has provided instructions on just where to go to do this. P.S. running the system file checker or check disc will not fix your problem as suggested by another poster. -- Mike Pawlak |
