6 months or so before it's really ready!

That one of the best answers I've seen to similar questions! I may steal
that to use elsewhere, if you're putting it in the public domain :-)

But only if they have physical access to your computer. From the article:

"The technology, which the agency has used since at least 2008, relies
on a covert channel of radio waves that can be transmitted from tiny
circuit boards and USB cards inserted surreptitiously into the computers."

MS has recently announced that they HAVE NOT even begun to work on W9,
but they already know it will be released in mid-2015.

That's not how you do it :-)

People are always working on it. They never stopped.
They're working on component parts. The OS is modular.

You don't tell a couple thousand people to stop work,
while you do some navel gazing. People work on
component parts, and then they pick what stuff
is "in or out" in the next release.

This is an example of a component. An executive
makes the call, as to whether this is "in or out"
on the new OS. The little people never stopped working
on it. The executive has to decide whether the
tech is mature, whether it's promising, whether it
fits. The little people just know it has to support
the same IOCTL calls as NTFS.

snipped for brevity

Thanks for the info. Vista (or later) was supposedly to have used WinFS
and I was wondering when MS was going to come up with a file system to
replace NTFS. From the article is looks like ReFS is not going to
implement some of the features that were to have been part of WinFS.
