Default Please Help Me. I am begging for help. BITS problem

I get the following error when I check the Event Viewer:

The BITS job list is not in a recognized format. It may have been created by a different version of BITS. The job list has been cleared.

The event id is 16391.

I get this error after i installed the new update to BITS. How do i resolve this problem. I am running windows xp home edition with service pack 1. I looked it the detail link that took me to a microsoft website that talks about the BITS error but it is
no help. I don't have a Windows product CD because Windows xp came preinstall on my computer with no CD. What is the cause of this. Please help me. Thanks for the help in advance.

while you are sorting this out, be sure to get windows updates, manually if
necessary.

Many of us (me included) disable BITS and Automatic Update services and get
Windows Updates manually.

Hi

You might want to follow the instructions in the following articles
(using bitsadmin.exe to clean up a corrupt job file):

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sup...ts&ProdVer=5.0
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sup...ts&ProdVer=5.2

Also, take a look he
http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?e...BITS &phase=1

If that doesn't help, delete the files in the folder

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\

Also note that there is a separate newsgroup for BITS:

microsoft.public.windows.backgroundtransfer
