Default Program not responding

I got a new computer a while ago with windows XP on it. A while back I
found a setting in windows that allowed me to have windows shut down a
program that was "Not Responding" automatically, rather than having me do it
manually, in which case a prompt waits for your response. I didn't change
anything at that time but now I can't remember where I found that setting
within windows. Can someone tell me how to get back to that point so that I
can set it to end programs that are not responding automatically??

Are you talking about using the task manager? You can shut down individual
programs that are not responding. Right click on the task bar and click on
TAS Manager, use the tab that says APPLICATIONS
I hope this is what you are looking for.

Nope, not the task manager. The setting I'm talking about was a =
permanent
setting. Of course you could change it if you want to. I'll give you =
an
example of how this setting helps: Let's say you are in a hurry and want =
to
leave. So you click the "Start" so you can power down right? Well,
sometimes programs don't want to cooperate and the result is that if you
take for granted that you can walk away from your system when you =
clicked
"Turn off computer" and then you click "Turn off" and walk away, because =
a
program "May" not have responded, you could be gone for weeks and when =
you
return your system is still waiting for you because of the program that
didn't respond. When you click on the setting I'm looking for, all =
programs
that won't respond are shut down regardless. Therefore you don't have =
to be
positive that the system did, indeed shut down.

Thanks for trying though and if anything else comes to mind please let =
me
know.

Joe,
Ashampoo PowerUp XP has an option to terminate hung programs at shutdown.
There is also another option to terminate in normal operation - I guess this
closes the program as soon as it hangs but I have never tried it.

Ashampoo PowerUp XP is often available on cover CDs of Computer magazines -
that is where I go mine.

Good luck
