Default missing PowerToy

I have posted this question in another Microsoft group will no reply. .
..

I found an image resizing tool among the Windows Power Toys and
downloaded it from the Microsoft web site. I double-clicked to intall it
and ran it through the Install Wizard. The problem is that now I can't
locate it to use it. I am aware that it simply adds a "Resize"
functionality to a right-click on an photo, but that addition is not
made to the dropdown menu that appears with my right click.

A file search revealed the installer in "C:\Windows\downloaded
installations" but double-clicking that file simply brings up the
Install Wizard, this time to either modify or remove the program
(apparently, it is correctly installed). The "Readme" in the programs
list of "Start" says that it is usually filed in System 32, but all I
can find there is the "Readme" file. The Powertoy is listed in
"Add/Remove Programs" as a 0.04 Mb program.

Can someone offer any suggestions?

System is XP Home SP1 fully patched, Norton AV, Ad-Aware, SpyBot,
SpywareBlaster, Adobe PhotoShop introductory version

Jim,

Does that "Readme" list the supported image file formats?
If so, is your photo format included in that list?

No, the "Readme" file is simply a catalog of the names of the available
PowerToys along with a short description of what each of them does. It
does not pertain specifically to the Image Resizer tool. It's similar to
the list found on the Microsoft page that contains the downloads:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p.../powertoys.asp

I've reached this same page through a variety of addresses.

Yes you did - about three hours before this one. This is Usenet, not an
email service, you're going to have to learn to have some patience!

Jim,

1. There "should" be a list of supported image file formats in the details
for that powertoy at that site.

2. Perhaps if you uninstal that powertoy via
Control Panel Add/Remove Programs, then re-instal it via double-clicking
the original file that you had downloaded from that site.

I have seen reports of problems relating to most of those powertoys.
The only one that I use is TweakUI.

I have never installed that powertoy.

While the program was installing, did the sequence of dialog boxes,
progress bars, etc. seem to indicate that the instal proceeded to
completion, without any errors?

Did you instal whilst logged on with admin rights?

There could be a conflict with your Adobe PhotoShop introductory version.
The version of PhotoShop Lite that I tried, does not play nicely with XP.

Jim,

If you've already installed the Powertoy and the Resize Pictures option =
does not appear, run these commands from Start, Run dialog:=20

regsvr32 shimgvw.dll
regsvr32 %Systemroot%\system32\phototoys.dll

I may upgrade to a Photoshop version that contains the same resizing
capabilities.

There are 'stand alone' software that do 'resizing'. One, although it does
not install to be on the right click menu, with a short cut it will find the
jpg file to resize (or do a folder of files) at
http://www.virtualzone.de/resizer/

There are more choices in the jpg 'resizer' using % than in the MS
powertoy.
Also check out
http://www.faststonesoft.com/FSViewerDetail.htm

FastStone Image Viewer (v1.5) is an image browser, viewer, converter and
editor with an easy to use interface and a nice array of features that
include resizing, renaming, cropping, color adjustments, watermarks and
more. It supports all major graphic formats including BMP, JPEG, JPEG 2000,
GIF, PNG, PCX, TIFF, WMF, ICO and TGA.

The above are freeware.
