AMD Athlon 64 FX vs. Intel P4
Between AMD Athlon 64 FX and Intel P4 which would you prefer? I also have the following questions about the AMD Athlon 64 FX.
Can the AMD Athlon 64 FX cpu run 32-bit programs? Can you upgrade to a AMD Athlon 64 FX cpu from an AMD Athlon XP 2800+?

Unless you install 64-bit applications designed to utilize a 64-bit
processor, there is no advantage. Microsoft has not yet released a 64-bit version of Windows XP that supports the AMD 64-bit CPU. The Intel P4 CPU makes much better sense for desktop users. Upgrading from an Athlon XP 2800+ to the new AMD Athlon 64 FX cpu will require a new motherboard.
