USB 2.0 Drivers and XP Part 2 (John and Crusty)
Hi,
NEC to PCI enhanced Host Controller is the USB 2.0 drivers. Try use a USB 2.0 device and connect to the USB 2.0 Hub. If it works fine, nothing to worry. I use Asus P4b266 mobo with USB 2.0 and it displayed the same in device manager as your PC. Peter -----Original Message----- Thanks for the help. I tried your suggestion, but it didn't do any good. Everything reinstalled exactly as before. I read somewhere that you may need to upgrade your bios, so I went to Dell and flashed the latest version (which was from July 2001) and then uninstalled all the USB devices again and rebooted to no effect. My computer is a 500 MHz Pentium 3 that I bought in December 1999. I upgraded to Win XP. Any other suggestions? Thanks Mike -----Original Message----- "Mike121458" wrote in message ... I tried to install a USB 2.0 PCI card into my system, but I think that Windows XP installed it as USB 1.0. I upgraded my 500 MHz Pentium 3 to Windows XP (Home Edition) some months back, and I already had Service Pack 1 installed. My understanding is that Service Pack 1 is supposed to have the latest USB 2 drivers; but after the installation when I checked in Device Manager, there is no USB 2.0 Root Hub listed. There is nothing that says "2.0" at all. Here is a list of everything under "Universal Serial Bus controllers": HP USB CD Writer 8200e series Intel(r) 82801AA USB Universal Host Controller NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller(B1) NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller USB Root Hub USB Root Hub USB Root Hub USB Root Hub I've gone to Windows update, but it doesn't provide me with any driver download options. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. I recently went through a similar experience. I think the "NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller (B1)" is the USB 2. Mine was a VIA brand, but said "VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller". After removing *all* USB devices and rebooting, it changed. Now it's "VIA USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller", and works fine. For some reason, you need to force USB driver reinstall after adding the hardware. John Nichols . |
