Startup hangs at Mup.sys
Most attempts at startup of XP home on my Compaq Presario
5000 hang. When I try Safe Mode, it hangs at Mup.sys. Every now and then, it starts up normally. What gives? BTW, no help from Compaq's site.

What gives? BTW, no help from Compaq's site. Mup.Sys happens to be the last driver loaded by Windows XP startup. It may be unrelated to your problem. Use the Event Viewer when you do get started to see where the error is. It is usually a hardware problem. -- Earl F. Parrish
